A leak is confirmed before it is chased. The meter is read with everything off; a pressure test isolates the section of pipe that is losing water. Then the right tool for the job: acoustic listening for a pressurised line, thermal imaging for the temperature shadow water leaves in plaster or concrete, moisture meters for the extent of the wet. Each has blind spots. A drain leak makes no noise, and a sunny wall confuses a thermal camera, which is why the readings are used together.

How do I check for a leak myself?
Turn everything off, read the meter, and read it again an hour later. Movement means a leak.
